tnr

TNR stands for Trap Neuter Return.

It is the recommended course of action when dealing with feral cat colonies or community cats in your neighborhood.

Many communities around the United States are implementing this program as the most humane and effective way to deal with the feral cat overpopulation issue.

It’s absolutely vital.

Part of TNR is fixing and returning cats to their outdoor homes, of course.  But most people don’t realize, rabies vaccinations are a vital part of the TNR program as well as feral kitten socialization and adoption.

It’s more than just fixing homeless cats!

Handsome, Jerk Cat

Handsome, Jerk Cat

I want to introduce you to a very special barn cat named Handsome. I inherited Handsome from my former employer when a horse training center closed down. He was supposed to go to another farm and that person backed out. So I took him with me instead! Handsome is a 13-year-old tabby barn cat, or so I’ve been told. That’s …

COVID-19 and Cats: How to Help

The COVID-19 pandemic shows no signs of slowing down yet and if you’re like me, you’re worried about COVID-19 and cats! Especially how to keep saving community cats during the stay-at-home orders. Even if you’re not worried about the disease itself, you’re worried about the economy crashing. You’re worried about spay and neuter clinics closing. You’re worried about kitten season. …

Abandoned Kitten Care Guide

Abandoned Kitten Care Guide

Kitten season is officially here! And it’s starting off rather badly already. Welcome to the Abandoned Kitten Care Guide. A very big part of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is adopting out the kittens after socializing them to humans. Some TNR volunteers stick to trapping only and deliver young kittens to rescues. Some TNR folks (like me) do it all themselves, even though …

The Best Bait for Feral Cats Graphic

The Best Bait for Feral Cats (Humane Only!)

There is always some discussion on what bait to use to catch the most cats during Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).  Even if you’ve been at trapping awhile, it’s always nice to hear what other people think is the best bait for feral cats! I know I personally love hearing the innovative ways people have encouraged the most cautious cats to enter traps.  …

The Best Feral Cat Trap

The Best Feral Cat Trap + Other Options!

When someone first starts out with the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) of community cats, people often wonder what is the best feral cat trap to use. Can you buy one? Barn Cat Network

The Barn Cat Network is a network of people just like you who can take in feral and semi-feral cats that are forced to relocate from their outdoor homes. Every single week I get messages or emails from rescues or shelters or just a concerned citizen who needs to find a barn home (or similar) for a feral or unadoptable …

Does TNR Work in 2019? [Trap Neuter Return Facts]

The nitty-gritty details of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) are right here, guys and gals! Before I get into “Does TNR Work?”, I want to first explain something very, very important. Many people don’t seem to understand what TNR actually is unless they participate in it. I’ve even had an argument online with a conservationist who clearly hates cats and the fact that he …
